SnackSmart is built from the ground up with your privacy in mind. Your nutrition data stays on your device, always.

📊 What We Collect

Health and Nutrition Data

What We Collect: Food scan records (photos, nutrition facts, calories, macros), snack history, dietary preferences, Apple Health sync data

How We Use It: Provide AI-powered food recognition, track nutrition intake, generate personalized recommendations, sync with Apple Health (optional)

Where It's Stored: Locally on your device only. We do NOT upload your nutrition data to any servers or share your food records with third parties.

Usage and Analytics Data

What We Collect: App usage patterns, crash reports, performance metrics, feature adoption

How We Use It: Improve app stability, understand valuable features, fix bugs and technical issues

Collection Method: Anonymous analytics (NOT linked to your identity), aggregate data only

Advertising Data (Free Tier Users Only)

What We Collect: Device identifiers (Advertising ID, Device ID), ad interaction data, general location (country/region)

Third Party: Google AdMob - We use Google AdMob to display advertisements to free tier users.

  • We do NOT link your data to third-party data for targeted advertising
  • We do NOT share your data with data brokers
  • We do NOT track you across other apps or websites
  • We serve contextual ads (health/nutrition related) NOT personalized ads based on tracking

What AdMob DOES: Prevents fraud (detects invalid traffic), limits ad frequency (prevents ad spam), shows contextual ads (health/nutrition related)

What AdMob Does NOT Do: Track you across apps/websites, build a profile of your interests, share your data with advertisers

Opt-Out Options: You can limit ad tracking in Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → Limit Ad Tracking, or upgrade to Premium to remove all ads

Premium Users: Premium subscribers see NO advertisements. AdMob is completely disabled and no advertising data is collected.

Local Data Storage

All your nutrition data, food records, and personal information are stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage mechanisms.

  • No cloud storage of personal data
  • No remote servers processing your information
  • Data encrypted using iOS security features

HealthKit Integration

SnackSmart integrates with Apple HealthKit to sync your nutrition data with the Health app, but this data never leaves your device.

  • Health data access requires your explicit permission
  • You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings
  • Data syncs locally between SnackSmart and the Health app

What We Don't Collect

❌ Personal Information

No names, emails, or contact information unless you voluntarily contact us for help.

❌ Tracking Across Apps

We don't track your behavior across other apps or websites for advertising purposes.

❌ Precise Location

SnackSmart doesn't access or store your precise location information.

❌ Data Sales

We never sell your data to third parties or data brokers.

Camera & Photo Library Access

SnackSmart uses your camera and photo library for AI-powered food recognition:

  • Camera Access: Take photos of food for instant nutrition analysis
  • Photo Library Access: Select existing photos from your library for analysis
  • Privacy Guarantee: Photos are processed on-device using Apple's Vision framework. Photos are NOT uploaded to any servers.
  • Data Retention: Food photos are stored locally on your device. You can delete them anytime from the app.

Microphone & Speech Recognition

SnackSmart may request microphone access for voice logging features:

  • Purpose: Log snacks using voice commands (e.g., "I ate an apple")
  • Processing: Voice data is processed on-device using Apple's Speech framework
  • Storage: Audio is NOT recorded or stored. Only the transcribed text is saved locally.
  • Optional: You can always choose text input instead of voice logging.

Third-Party Services

Google AdMob (Free Tier Only)

Purpose: Display advertisements to support free tier

Data Collected: Device Advertising ID, ad interaction data, approximate location (country/region)

Privacy Policy: Google Privacy Policy

Opt-Out: Upgrade to Premium to completely disable AdMob

Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases)

Purpose: Process Premium subscription purchases

Data Handled by Apple: Payment information, subscription status

SnackSmart Access: We only receive subscription status (active/expired), no payment details

Data Retention

  • Nutrition Data: Stored locally until you delete the app or manually clear data
  • Food Photos: Stored locally until you delete individual entries or the app
  • Analytics Data: Retained for 90 days in aggregated form
  • Ad Data (Free Tier): Managed by Google AdMob, subject to their retention policies

To delete all your data: Simply delete the SnackSmart app from your device. All locally stored data will be permanently removed.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: All your data is stored locally on your device and accessible within the app
  • Deletion: Delete individual entries within the app or delete the app to remove all data
  • Export: Premium users can export their data in CSV/PDF format
  • Revoke Permissions: Disable HealthKit, Camera, Microphone access anytime in iOS Settings
  • Opt-Out of Ads: Upgrade to Premium for ad-free experience

Children's Privacy

SnackSmart is safe for users of all ages (4+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. All data stays on-device, and Premium subscriptions require parental approval through Family Sharing.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by:

  • Posting the new privacy policy on this page
  • Updating the "Last updated" date at the top
  • Displaying an in-app notification for material changes
